Caves in the vicinity of Durango (town), northwestern Hidalgo, Mexico, 2160 m elevation.

Darda, 1994, Herpetologica, 50: 164-187, noted that this form may be conspecific with Chiropterotriton multidentatusRaffaëlli, 2013, Urodeles du Monde, 2nd ed.: 291, provided a brief account, photograph, and map. See map, description of geographic range and habitat, and conservation status in Stuart, Hoffmann, Chanson, Cox, Berridge, Ramani, and Young, 2008, Threatened Amph.
