Chiropterotriton infernalis Rovito and Parra-Olea, 2015, Zootaxa, 4048: 65. Holotype: MVZ 269665, by original designation. Type locality: "Cueva del Brinco, Conrado Castillo, ca. 43.5 km SW (by rd) of Ejido Guayabas, Municipio Hidalgo, Tamaulipas, Mexico, 23.95949° N, 99.47447° W (WGS84 datum), 1920 m elevation".

Sistema Purificación Salamander (original publication). 

Sistema Purificacion Splayfoot Salamander (Raffaëlli, 2022, Salamanders & Newts of the World: 793).

Distribution

Currently known only from the Sistema Purificación, a very large cave system in the Municipio Hidalgo, Tamaulips, Mexico, 1920 m elevation; expected to be found in adjacent Nuevo León.

Previously confused with Chiropterotriton multidentatus according to the original publication. Raffaëlli, 2022, Salamanders & Newts of the World: 793, provided an account summarizing systematics, life history, population status, and distribution (including a polygon map).
