English Names

Guatemalan Black Salamander (original publication).

Highlands of the eastern portion of the Departamento Baja Verapaz, in the vicinity of Purulhá and Chilascó as well as from the southern slopes and crest of the Sierra de las Minas in the Departamento El Progreso and Zacapa, 1585 to 2725 m elevation in cloud forest.

Confused with Bolitoglossa meliana prior to its naming according to the original publication. Given that the type and only known specimen of Bolitoglosa tzultacaj is a subadult female with a regenerated tail, it is not clear how this taxon, from the same mountain range, can be diagnosed from that one (DRF).
