Distribution

Pacific slope of the Sierra Madre del Sur of Guerrero, Mexico, 765–2465 m elevation from northern part of the municipality of Técpan de Galeana to the southeast of the municipality of San Miguel Totalapan and central and northeastern municipality of Atoyac de Álvarez.

Formerly a member of the Bolitoglossa macrinii group which now constitutes the subgenus Oaxakia according to Parra-Olea, García-París, and Wake, 2004, Biol. J. Linn. Soc., 81: 335. Raffaëlli, 2013, Urodeles du Monde, 2nd ed.: 357, provided a brief account, photograph, and range map. Ahumada-Carrillo, Grünwald, Jones, Ramírez-Chaparro, Morales-Flores, Montaño-Ruvalcaba, and Franz-Chávez, 2020, Rev. Latinoam. Herpetol., 3: 118–120, provided a range extension to the northern part of the municipality of Técpan de Galeana and mapped the range. Raffaëlli, 2022, Salamanders & Newts of the World: 784–785, provided an account summarizing systematics, life history, population status, and distribution (including a polygon map).
