Type locality: "near La Soledad, on road to Torre de Guatel, 2650 m, Depto. Jalapa, Guatemala (14.530146° N, 90.142417° W)".

Distribution

Miramundo Highlands, in the Departamento Jalapa, southwestern Guatemala, in montane hardwood forest at elevations of 2360 to 2660 m.

In the Bolitoglossa (Magnadigita) morio group of Campbell, Smith, Streicher, Acevedo, and Brodie, 2010, Misc. Publ. Mus. Zool. Univ. Michigan, 200: 19. Köhler, 2011, Amph. Cent. Am.: 40–69, compared this species with others from Central America and provided a map and photograph. Raffaëlli, 2013, Urodeles du Monde, 2nd ed.: 351, provided a brief account, photograph, and range map. Núñez-Robles, Gutiérrez-Godoy, Flores-Turcios, Meléndez-López, Morales-Arroyo, Santa Cruz-Huard, González-Martínez, and Ariano-Sánchez, 2022, Rev. Latinoam. Herpetol., 5: 38–40, provided a second locality in the highlands of Jalapa, Guatemala (Community Reserve Bosque Encantado in Ladinos Pardos village) and discussed the distribution and conservation status. Raffaëlli, 2022, Salamanders & Newts of the World: 769–770, provided an account summarizing systematics, life history, population status, and distribution (including a polygon map).
