Comment

The placement in Theloderma is provisional, based on the inclusion by Fei, Hu, Ye, and Huang, 2009, Fauna Sinica, Amph. 2: 712, Theloderma within Aquixalus, and that statement that Aquixalus beibengensis is close to Aquixalus albopunctatus (now a synonym of Theloderma asperum). Fei, Ye, and Jiang, 2010, Colored Atlas of Chinese Amph.: 425-383, provided a brief account (as Aquixalus baibungensis) including photographs of specimens. Fei, Ye, and Jiang, 2012, Colored Atlas Chinese Amph. Distr.: 504, provided an account (as Aquixalus baibungensis), photographs, and a range map for China. In the subgenus Theloderma, Theloderma asperum species group of Poyarkov, Orlov, Moiseeva, Pawangkhanant, Ruangsuwan, Vassilieva, Galoyan, Nguyen, and Gogoleva, 2015, Russ. J. Herpetol., 22: 276. Hou, Yu, Chen, Liao, Zhang, Chen, Li, and Orlov, 2017, Russ. J. Herpetol., 24: 117, noted that earlier records of Theloderma asperum from northeastern India are referable to Theloderma baibungense. See comments by Hakim, Trageser, Ghose, Das, Rashid, and Rahman, 2020, Check List, 16: 1239–1268, who reported the species from Lawachara National Park, Sylhet Division, northeastern Bangladesh. Che, Jiang, Yan, and Zhang, 2020, Amph. Rept. Tibet: 395–398, provided a detailed account for Tibet, China. Biakzuala, Muansanga, Decemson, Hmar, Malsawmdawngliana, Mathipi, and Lalremsanga, 2022, Reptiles & Amphibians, 29: 66–70, discussed systemaatics, the range, and provided a new, genetically confirmed, record from Mizoram, northeastern India.
