Philautus saueri Malkmus and Riede, 1996, Sauria, Berlin, 18: 27, 29. Holotype: ZMB 53626, by original designation. Type locality: "Leptospernum-Dacrydium-Kugelschirmkronenwald östlich der Paka-Cave (3050 m) am SW-Hang des Mt. Kinabalu", Sabah, Malaysia.

Montane forest between Layang Layang and of Pakka Cave, 2200-3500 m elevation, on the southwestern slopes of Mount Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia.

In the Philautus aurifasciatus group as defined in the original publication. See identification table by Manthey and Grossmann, 1997, Amph. Rept.
