Rhacophorus macroscelis Boulenger, 1896, Ann. Mag. Nat. Hist., Ser. 6, 17: 403. Holotype: BMNH, by original designation. Holotype is BMNH 1947.2.8.85 (formerly numbered 1895.11.7.82) by museum records. Type locality: "Mount Kina Balu, N. Borneo [= Sabah]".

Philautus spiculatus Smith, 1931, Bull. Raffles Mus., 5: 20. Holotype: BMNH, by original designation, by museum records this is BMNH 1947.2.6.4 (originally 1929.12.22.24). Type locality: "Kenokok, alt. 3,300 feet", Mount Kina Balu, Sabah, Malaysia (Borneo). Synonymy with Rhacophorus everetti (sensu lato) by Inger, 1966, Fieldiana, Zool., 52: 298–300. Synonymy with Rhacophorus macroscelis implied by Hertwig, Das, Schweizer, Brown, and Haas, 2012, Zool. Scripta, 41: 29–46.

Distribution

Borneo in the mountainous area from Gunung Kinabalu National Park in Sabah to Gunung Mulu National Park in Sarawak, Malaysia, and Brunei, 750–1800 m elevation; possibly to be found in adjacent Brunei and Kalimantan, Indonesia.

Removed from the synonymy of Rhacophorus everetti by Hertwig, Das, Schweizer, Brown, and Haas, 2012, Zool. Scripta, 41: 29–46, where it had been placed by Inger, 1966, Fieldiana, Zool., 52: 297. Formerly placed as a synonym of Rhacophorus buergeri hosii by Wolf, 1936, Bull. Raffles Mus., 12: 170. See account for Bornean population (as Rhacophorus everetti macroscelis) by Inger, 1966, Fieldiana, Zool., 52: 298–300. Malkmus, Manthey, Vogel, Hoffmann, and Kosuch, 2002, Amph. Rept. Mount Kinabalu: 210–212, provided an account as Rhacophorus everetti macroscelis. Manthey and Grossmann, 1997, Amph. Rept.
