Distribution

Known only from the type locality in the mountains of northwestern Hunan, China.

Related to Rana weiningensis according to original publication. Fei, 1999, Atlas Amph. China: 168-169, provided a brief account, map, and figure. Fei, Hu, Ye, and Huang, 2009, Fauna Sinica, Amph. 3: 1112-1116, provided an account, figures, and map for China. Fei, Ye, and Jiang, 2010, Colored Atlas of Chinese Amph.: 298-299, provided a brief account including photographs. Fei, Ye, and Jiang, 2012, Colored Atlas Chinese Amph. Distr.: 340, provided an account, photographs, and a range map for China. Yuan, Zhou, Chen, Poyarkov, Chen, Jang-Liaw, Chou, Matzke, Iizuka, Min, Kuzmin, Zhang, Cannatella, Hillis, and Che, 2016, Syst. Biol., 65: 835, suggested on the basis of undisclosed evidence that this species is not a member of Pseudorana.
