Rana compotrix Bain, Stuart, and Orlov, 2006, Copeia, 2006: 52. Holotype: FMNH 256500, by original designation. Type locality: "Laos, Khammouan Province, Nakai District, Nakai-Nam Theun National Biodiversity Conservation Area, 3 m from Houay Tin Tou Stream in evergreen forest, collected on a tree 1.5 m above the ground, 17° 58′ N, 105° 34′ E, 700 m elevation".

English Names

Khammouan Torrent Frog (Poyarkov, Nguyen, Popov, Geissler, Pawangkhanant, Neang, Suwannapoom, and Orlov, 2021, Russ. J. Herpetol., 28 (3A): 44). 

Distribution

Known only from Laos (Khammouan and Khouang provinces), Vietnam (Kon Tum, Thua Tien Hue, and Son La Provinces) so presumably found throughout the southern highlands of Laos and the adjacent central highlands of Vietnam, possibly to extreme northeastern Cambodia.

Comment

Related to Amolops archotaphus (as Rana) with previous records from Laos applying to this species, according to the original publication. In the Amolops monticola group of Stuart, Bain, Phimmachak, and Spence, 2010, Herpetologica, 66: 52-66. In the Amolops monticola group of Wu, Yan, Stuart, Prendini, Suwannapoom, Dahn, Zhang, Cai, Xu, Jiang, Chen, Lemmon, Lemmon, Raxworthy, Orlov, Murphy, and Che, 2020, Mol. Phylogenet. Evol., 144 (106701): 1–13, who discussed molecular phylogenetics. Pham, Sung, Pham, Le, Ziegler, and Nguyen, 2019, Raffles Bull.
