Comment

Lamotte, 1963, Bull. Inst. Franç. Afr. Noire, Ser. A, 25: 944, and Arnoult and Lamotte, 1968, Bull. Inst. Fondam. Afr. Noire, Ser. A, 30: 293, considered Pseudhymenochirus as a subgenus of Hymenochirus. Sokol, 1977, J. Morphol., 154: 357, concluded that these genera were very closely related but distinctive primitive characters of Pseudhymenochirus may justify separation "if one so desires." Cannatella and Trueb, 1988, J. Herpetol., 22: 439-456, reported on the phylogenetic relationships of this genus.
