Comment

Perret and Mertens, 1957, Bull. Inst. Franç. Afr. Noire, Ser. A, 19: 554, regarded Hymenochirus feae as a subspecies of Hymenochirus boettgeri, but Perret, 1966, Zool. Jahrb., Jena, Abt. Syst., 93: 305, recognized Hymenochirus feae as a distinct species. Frétey, Dewynter, and Blanc, 2011, Clé de détermination, Amph. Afri. Centr. Angola: 1–232, provided a key for identification. Nagy, Chifundera, Collet, and Gvoždík, 2013, Herpetol. Notes, 6:  413–419, provided a record (as Hymenochirus sp. aff. feae) from Bas-Congo, southwestern Dem. Rep. Congo. Deichmann, Mulcahy, Vanthomme, Tobi, Wynn, Zimkus, and McDiarmid, 2017, PLoS One, 12 (11: e0187283): 21, provided molecular evidence for a likely unnamed lineage in Rep. Congo. Baptista, Conradie, Vaz Pinto, and Branch, 2019, In Huntley, Russo, Lages, and Ferrand (eds.), Biodiversity in Angola: 256, discussed the possible range in Angola. Dewynter and Frétey, 2019, Cah. Fondation Biotope, 27: 34, summarized the literature for Gabon and noted that specimens away from the type locality may not be of this species. Channing and Rödel, 2019, Field Guide Frogs & Other Amph. Afr.: 40–41, provided a brief account, photograph, and range map.
