Comment

See Laurent, 1972, Explor. Parc Natl. Virunga, Ser. 2, 22: 106, for discussion. Removed from the synonymy of Phrynobatrachus dendrobates by Laurent, 1941, Rev. Zool. Bot. Afr., 34: 196, where it had been placed by Loveridge, 1936, Field Mus. Nat. Hist. Publ., Zool. Ser., 22: 97. Channing and Howell, 2006, Amph. E. Afr.: 297-298, provided an account. Frétey, 2008, Alytes, 25: 99-172, summarized the literature. See photograph, map, description of geographic range and habitat, and conservation status in Stuart, Hoffmann, Chanson, Cox, Berridge, Ramani, and Young, 2008, Threatened Amph. World: 473. In species group A of Zimkus, Rödel, and Hillers, 2010, Mol. Phylogenet. Evol., 55: 883-900.
