Phrynobatrachus sulfureogularis Laurent, 1951, Rev. Zool. Bot. Afr., 44: 362. Holotype: MRAC unnumbered, according to the original publication. Type locality: "Massif du Nanzergwa, 2300-2500 m, Territoire de Bururi, Urundi [=Burundi]", Central Africa.

English Names

Central River Frog (Frank and Ramus, 1995, Compl. Guide Scient. Common Names Amph. Rept. World: 104).


Known only from the type locality in the Massif of Nanzergwa, western Burundi, and the Mahal Mountains, eastern Tanzania. 


Not addressed by Zimkus, Rödel, and Hillers, 2010, Mol. Phylogenet. Evol., 55: 883-900, so not assigned to species group. Lawson and Zimkus, 2011, Fieldiana, Life Earth Sci., 4: 112–116, reported the species from the Mahale Mountains of western Tanzania and rediagnosed the species.
