Phrynobatrachus inexpectatus Largen, 2001, Tropical Zool., 14: 301. Holotype: BMNH 1975.1711, by original designation. Type locality: "70 km NW of Kebre Mengist, near Bore (06° 23′ N 38° 35′ E, 2650 m), Ethiopia".

Largen's Dwarf Puddle Frog (Largen and Spawls, 2010, Amph. Rept. Ethiopia Eritrea: 208).


Known only from near Bore (2650 m elevation) and near Dorse (2600 m elevation) in forested southwestern Ethiopia.


In the dwarf Phrynobatrachus group according to the original publication and compared with Phrynobatrachus scapularis, Phrynobatrachus albifer, Phrynobatrachus rouxi, Phrynobatrachus ukingensis, Phrynobatrachus mababiensis, Phrynobatrachus cryptotis.
