Distribution

Currently known from only two localities in the Ghanaian forest zone; the Atewa Range in southeastern Ghana and the small (0.5 ha) Jukwa forest, situated near the Kakum National Park in south-western Ghana, although expected to be more widespread.

Comment

The sister taxon of Phrynobatrachus gutturosus according to the original publication. Channing and Rödel, 2019, Field Guide Frogs & Other Amph. Afr.: 304–305, provided a brief account, photograph, and range map. In the Phrynobatrachus calcaratus group of Goutte, Reyes-Velasco, and Boissinot, 2019, ZooKeys, 824: 53–70.
