Comment

See Klemens, 1998, Herpetol. J., 8: 35-40. Channing, Moyer, and Howell, 2002, Alytes, 20: 13-27, noted that this species had, prior to 2002, been confused with Artholeptides yakusini. Channing and Howell, 2006, Amph. E. Afr.: 260-263, provided an account (as Arthroleptides martiensseni). Pickersgill, 2007, Frog Search: 293-295, also provided an account. See photograph, map, description of geographic range and habitat, and conservation status (as Arthroleptides martiensseni) in Stuart, Hoffmann, Chanson, Cox, Berridge, Ramani, and Young, 2008, Threatened Amph. World: 468. Loader, Ceccarelli, Wilkinson, Menegon, Mariaux, de Sá, Howell, and Gower, 2013, Afr. J. Herpetol., 62:40-48, noted that the population previously noted from the Nguru Mountains is actually an unnamed species. Channing, Rödel, and Channing, 2012, Tadpoles of Africa: 267–268, provided information on comparative larval morphology. Harper, Measey, Patrick, Menegon, and Vonesh, 2010, Field Guide Amph.
