Odontophrynus salvatori Caramaschi, 1996, Bol. Mus. Nac., Rio de Janeiro, N.S., Zool., 367: 1. Holotype: MNRJ 15870, by original designation. Type locality: "Brasil, Goiás, Município de Alto Paraíso, Parque Nacional da Chapada dos Veadeiros (ca. 14° 08′ S, 47° 32′ W)".

Known from the region of the type locality (Parque Nacional da Chapada dos Veadeiros, Goiás, Brazil), the Distrito Federal, and Parque Estadual da Serra dos Pirineus, Pirenópolis, Goiás, Brazil, in open areas above 900 m elevation.


Closely related to Odontophrynus moratoi (= Proceratophrys moratoi) according to the original publication. Brandão and Batista, 2000, Iheringia, Zool., 89: 165-171, discussed the tadpole and the species' range. Amaro, Pavan, and Rodrigues, 2009, Zootaxa, 2071: 65, suggested that this species is actually a member of Proceratophrys.
