Comment

Considered to be the sister taxon of Sooglossidae in the original publication (Biju and Bossuyt, 2003, Nature, 425: 711-714). See also Hedges, 2003, Nature, 425: 669-670. Dutta, Vasudevan, Chaitra, Shanker, and Aggarwal, 2004, Curr. Sci., Bangalore, 86: 211–216, noted an undescribed species in this genus and discussed phylogeny. Scott, 2005, Cladistics, 21: 521, suggested on the basis of external morphological characteristics provided in the original description that Nasikabatrachus might be closely related to Hemisus (Hemisotidae) although molecular data do not bear this out.
