Tyler, Davies, and Martin, 1981, Aust. J. Zool., Suppl. Ser., 29 (79): 17, redefined the species and questioned the identity of literature records. Subsequently, Davies and Littlejohn, 1986, Trans. R. Soc. S. Aust., 110: 111-143, redefined the species. See brief account by Tyler and Knight, 2009, Field Guide Frogs Aust.: 148-149. See brief account, as Uperoleia capitulata, by Tyler and Knight, 2009, Field Guide Frogs Aust.: 148-149.
