Type(s): Not designated formally, MNHNP 4499 (2 specimens) registered as syntypes (although 3 specimens mentioned in original publication). MNHNP 4500 cited as holotype (lectotype designation by implication) by Guibé, 1950 "1948", Cat. Types Amph. Mus. Natl. Hist. Nat.: 41, although Duméril and Bibron, 1841, presented measurements for only one specimen. Type locality: "Nouvelle-Hollande?" (=Australia).

Coasts of eastern Queensland (south of Cape York Peninsula), New South Wales, Victoria, southeastern South Australia, and northern Tasmania, Australia.
