Oreophryne waira Günther, 2003, Zool. Abh. Staatl. Mus. Tierkd. Dresden, 53: 71. Holotype: ZMB 65878, by original designation. Type locality: "about 7 km NEN [sic] of the village of Kontiunae (colloquial Konti), 15 km NE of Serui, in the Waira Mountain on Yapen Island, 1° 47′ S and 136° 20′ E, altitude 630 m a.s.l., Papua, Province of Indonesia".

Distribution
Known only from the vicinity of the type locality on a slope of the Waira Mountain, about 7 km north-northeast of Konti, Yapen Island, Papua (New Guinea), Indonesia.
