Hylophorbus rainerguentheri Richards and Oliver, 2007, Mitt. Mus. Naturkd. Berlin, Zool., 83 (Supplement): 84. Holotype: SAMA R61938, by original designation. Type locality: "Surim Camp (05° 52.424′ S, 146° 42.658′ E, 1100 m asl), Huon Peninsula, Morobe Province, Papua New Guinea".

Asterophrys rainerguentheri — Dubois, Ohler, and Pyron, 2021, Megataxa, 5: 499, by implication.

Known only from two localities, Surim (1100 m elevation) and Abalgamut (1830 m elevation), in rainforest, Huon Peninsula, Morobe Province, Papua New Guinea.
