Cophixalus sphagnicola Zweifel and Allison, 1982, Am. Mus. Novit., 2723: 6. Holotype: AMNH 83077, by original designation. Type locality: "at about 2300 m., near the summit of Mount Kaindi, 5 km. west of Wau, Morobe Province, Papua New Guinea".

Distribution
Mount Amungwiwa, Mount Kaini, and Mount Missim, Morobe Province, Papua New Guinea, 2000-3000 m elevation.
