Leptolalax applebyi Rowley and Cao, 2009, Zootaxa, 2198: 52. Holotype: AMS R171703, by original designation. Type locality: "2 m from steep, narrow, rocky stream in Song Thanh Proposed Nature Reserve, Phouc Son district, Quang Nam Province, Vietnam (15.27394 º N, 107.76015 º E, 1402 m".

Distribution

Known only from headwaters of rocky streams in montane forest the vicinity of the type locality (Song Thanh Nature Reserve, Phuoc Son District, Quang Nam Province), and from Phong Dien Nature Reserve, Thanh Hoa Province, Vietnam, 1200–1500 m elevation.

In the Leptolalax applebyi group according to Rowley, Tran, Le, Dau, Peloso, Nguyen, Hoang, Nguyen, and Ziegler, 2016, Zootaxa, 4085: 63–102. Ohler, Wollenberg, Grosjean, Hendrix, Vences, Ziegler, and Dubois, 2011, Zootaxa, 3147: 20, doubted the inclusion of this species in LalosChen, Poyarkov, Suwannapoom, Lathrop, Wu, Zhou, Yuan, Jin, Chen, Liu, Nguyen, Nguyen, Duong, Eto, Nishikawa, Matsui, Orlov, Stuart, Brown, Rowley, Murphy, Wang, and Che, 2018, Mol. Phylogenet. Evol., 124: 169, provided the record from Phong Dien Nature Reserve, Thanh Hoa Province, Vietnam.
