Distribution

Known from three low and mid-altitude localities in southeastern Madagascar: (1) the type locality Fort Carnot (Ikongo) at 600 m, (2) Manombo Special Reserve (ca. 50 m elevation), and (3) the village Vondrozo (ca. 200 m elevation).

Removed from the synonymy of Gephryomantis boulengeri by Wollenberg, Glaw, and Vences, 2012, Zootaxa, 3421: 32-60 (who placed it in the Gephyromantis decaryi complex), where it had been placed by Guibé, 1950 "1948", Cat. Types Amph. Mus. Natl. Hist. Nat.: 55, and Guibé, 1978, Bonn. Zool. Monogr., 11: 53. Miralles, Köhler, Glaw, Wollenberg Valero, Crottini, Rosa, Du Preez, Gehring, Vieites, Ratsoavina, and Vences, 2023, Salamandra, 59: 1–41, placed this in their Gephyromantis decaryi complex and discussed its relationships and provided a dot map.
