Leptodactylus sertanejo Giaretta and Costa, 2007, Zootaxa, 1608: 3. Holotype: ZUEC 13657, by original designation. Type locality: "Clube de Caça e Pesca Itororó de Uberlândia (around 19° 00′ 00″ S, 48° 18′ 53″ W, 850 m asl), municipality of Uberlândia, State of Minas Gerais, Brazil".

According to the original publication, in the Leptodactylus fuscus group, similar to Leptodactylus gracilis, Leptodactylus jolyi, Leptodactylus marambaiae, and Leptodactylus plaumanni and predicted to include populations in the Cerrado morphoclimatic domain in Brazil currently referred to Leptodactylus jolyi. In the Leptodactylus fuscus species group of de Sá, Grant, Camargo, Heyer, Ponssa, and Stanley, 2014, S. Am. J. Herpetol., 9(Spec. Issue 1): 1–123, and who provided a summary of relevant literature (adult morphology, identification, advertisement call, and range) on pp. 45–46. Neves, Pereira Silva, Lima, Folly, Oliveira, Santana, and Feio, 2017, Herpetol. Notes, 10: 297–311, discussed call differences between typical Leptodactylus jolyi and a population (Leptodactylus cf jolyi) found in the Serra Negra da Mantiqueira, Minas Gerais, Brazil, and discussed problems of identification relative to Leptodactylus sertanejo. Vaz-Silva, Maciel, Nomura, Morais, Guerra Batista, Santos, Andrade, Oliveira, Brandão, and Bastos, 2020, Guia Ident. Anf. Goiás e Dist. Fed. Brasil Central: 126, provided an account for Goiás and the D.F., Brazil. Eterovick, Souza, and Sazima, 2020, Anf. Serra do Cipó: 1–292, provided an account, life history information, and an identification scheme for the Serra de Cipó, Minas Gerais, Brazil.
