Leptodactylus jolyi Sazima and Bokermann, 1978, Rev. Brasil. Biol., 38: 902. Holotype: WCAB 47969, by original designation, now MZUSP 73726, by museum records. Type locality: "Campo Grande (900 m), Paranapicaba, São Paulo, Brasil".

 Paranapiacaba region, State of São Paulo, and in open areas of the Atlantic forest and in the Cerrados of eastern Brazil. 


In the Leptodactylus gracilis group (=Leptodactylus fuscus group), according to the original publication. Canelas and Bertoluci, 2007, Iheringia, Zool., 97: 21-26, provided a record for the Serra do Caraça, southern end of the Serra do Espinhaço, Minas Gerais, Brazil. See comment under Leptodactylus sertanejo, which may be confused with this species for substantial portions of its stated range. Giaretta and Costa, 2007, Zootaxa, 1608: 1-10, discussed the species compared to its close relatives. Eterovick and Sazima, 2004, Anf.
