Leptodactylus bufonius Boulenger, 1894, Ann. Mag. Nat. Hist., Ser. 6, 13: 348. Syntypes: BMNH (4 specimens of which Parker, 1931, J. Linn. Soc. London, Zool., 37: 286-287, excluded the two smaller as Leptodactylus diptyx); BMNH 1947.2.17.72 designated lectotype by Heyer, 1978, Sci. Bull. Nat. Hist. Mus. Los Angeles Co., 29: 33. Type locality: "Asuncion, Paraguay".

Distribution

Arid eastern and southeastern Bolivia to northern Argentina, Paraguay, and Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil.
