Nattereria lateristriga Steindachner, 1864, Verh. Zool. Bot. Ges. Wien, 14: 279. Syntypes: NHMW 4329 (2 specimens), according to Häupl, Tiedemann, and Grillitsch, 1994, Kat. Wiss. Samml. Naturhist. Mus. Wien, 9: 29; NHMW 4329.1 designated lectotype by Cassini, Cruz, and Caramaschi, 2010, Zootaxa, 2491: 6. Type locality: "Carytiba im Walde am Boden", Brazil.

Physalaemus personatus Steindachner, 1864, Verh. Zool. Bot. Ges. Wien, 14: 279. Name attributed to Fitzinger, and coined in synonymy of Nattereria lateristriga.

Removed from the synonymy of Physalameus olfersi by Cassini, Cruz, and Caramaschi, 2010, Zootaxa, 2491: 6, 16, where it had been placed by Peters, 1882, Sitzungsber. Ges. Naturforsch. Freunde Berlin, 1882: 62; Boulenger, 1885, Ann. Mag. Nat. Hist., Ser. 5, 16: 298. In the Physalaemus cuvieri clade, Physalaemus olfersii species group, of Lourenço, Targueta, Baldo, Nascimento, Garcia, Andrade, Haddad, and Recco-Pimentel, 2015, Mol. Phylogenet. Evol., 92: 204–216. Carvalho, Haddad, and Gridi-Papp, 2019, Acta Herpetol., Firenze, 14: 21–26, reported on tonal calls. Hepp and Pombal, 2020, Zootaxa, 4725: 1–106, discussed this species as part of a genus-wide discussion of bioacoustical traits among the species. Mello, Gonçalves, Rossa-Feres, and Conte, 2021, Zootaxa, 4948: 447–450, described larval morphology.
