Laurent, 1985, in Frost (ed.), Amph. Species World: 220, and Schiøtz, 1999, Treefrogs Afr.: 109), regarded Hyperolius wermuthi as a likely synonym of Hyperolius soror and so similar to Hyperolius fusciventris that likely overlooked elsewhere. See brief account, as Hyperolius wermuthi, in Poynton and Broadley, 1987, Ann. Natal Mus., 28: 206. See statement of geographic range, habitat, and conservation status of nominal Hyperolius wermuthi in Stuart, Hoffmann, Chanson, Cox, Berridge, Ramani, and Young, 2008, Threatened Amph. World: 618, who noted that this taxon may be synonymous with Hyperolius sororChanning and Rödel, 2019, Field Guide Frogs & Other Amph. Afr.: 396, regarded this species as a synonym of Hyperolius soror.  Channing, Rödel, and Channing, 2012, Tadpoles of Africa: 221–222, provided information on comparative larval morphology. Rödel and Glos, 2019, Zoosyst. Evol., 95: 23, reported this species from the Krahn-Bassa Proposed Protected Area in southeastern Liberia and the Foya Proposed Protected Area in western Liberia. Channing and Rödel, 2019, Field Guide Frogs & Other Amph. Afr.: 174–175, provided a brief account, photograph, and range map. See comment under Hyperolius wermuthi which Channing and Rödel, 2019, Field Guide Frogs & Other Amph. Afr.: 396, regarded as a synonym. Kanga, Kouamé, Zogbass, Gongomin, Agoh, Kouamé, Konan, Adepo-Gourène, Gourène, and Rödel, 2021, Amph. Rept.
