Hyperolius occidentalis Schiøtz, 1967, Spolia Zool. Mus. Haun., 25: 193. Holotype: ZMUC R076225, by original designation. Type locality: "near the forestry resthouse in Kassewe Forest Reserve, Sierra Leone".

Distribution

Coastal lowlands of southern Senegal, Gambia, Guinea-Bissau, Guinea, and Sierra Leone.

Comment

Very similar to Hyperolius picturatus according to the original publication, and possibly conspecific according to Schiøtz, 1999, Treefrogs Afr.: 116–117, who provided a brief account and map. Gambia record by Barnett, Emms, and Santoni, 2001, Herpetol. Bull., London, 77: 8. Auliya, Wagner, and Böhme, 2012, Bonn Zool. Bull., 61: 255–281, reported the species from the Bijagós Archipelago, Guinea-Bissau. Channing and Rödel, 2019, Field Guide Frogs & Other Amph. Afr.: 184–185, provided a brief account, photograph, and range map.
