Comment

See accounts by Cochran, 1955 "1954", Bull. U.S. Natl. Mus., 206: 246–246 (as Crossodactylus aeneus), 248-252 (as Crossodactylus gaudichaudii), and Heyer, Rand, Cruz, Peixoto, and Nelson, 1990, Arq. Zool., São Paulo, 31: 291. Advertisement call reported by Weygoldt and Carvalho-e-Silva, 1992, Amphibia-Reptilia, 13: 35–45. In the Crossodactylus gaudichaudii group of Caramaschi and Sazima, 1985, Rev. Brasil. Zool., 3: 43-49 (as both Crossodactylus aenus and Crossodactylus gaudichaudi). Izecksohn and Carvalho-e-Silva, 2001, Anf. Municipio Rio de Janeiro: 71, provided a brief account and photo. R. Montesinos in Ferreira, Mônico, Silva, Lirio, Zocca, Mageski, Tonini, Beard, Duca, and Silva-Soares, 2019, ZooKeys, 857: 152, noted an unnamed species, "Crossodactylus aff. gaudichaudii" in the region of Santa Teresa, Espírito Santo, Brazil. Silva-Soares, Nogueira-Costa, Borges, Weber, and Rocha, 2015, Herpetologica, 71: 46–57, reported on larval morphology and ecology, as Crossodactylus aenus.  Santos-Pereira, Pombal, and Rocha, 2018, Biota Neotrop., 18 (3: e20170322): 1–19, suggested that isolated records from Paraná, Brazil, require confirmation. Vittorazzi, Lourenço, Zattera, Weber, Recco-Pimentel, and Bruschi, 2021, Genet. Mol. Biol., 44 (2: e20200301): 1–9, reported on molecular markers and cytogenetics and placed Crossodactylus aeneus into the synonymy of Crossodactylus gaudichaudii. Larval morphology and anatomy discussed by Dias, Vera Candioti, Sabbag, Colaço, Silva, Haddad, Carvalho-e-Silva, and Grant, 2021, J. Zool. Syst. Evol. Res., 59: 1297–1321.
