Hyla imitatrix Miranda-Ribeiro, 1926, Arq. Mus. Nac., Rio de Janeiro, 27: 77. Syntypes: MNRJ 154 (2 specimens), according to Miranda-Ribeiro, 1955, Arq. Mus. Nac., Rio de Janeiro, 42: 411, who considered one specimen the holotype and the other the allotype, a lectotype designation by implication. Type locality: "Therezopolis [= Teresópolis], Serra dos Orgãos", Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

States of São Paulo, southern Minas Gerais, and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.


Lavilla and Cei, 2001, Monogr. Mus. Reg. Sci. Nat. Torino, 28: 51, commented on the Argentine record. Brusquetti and Lavilla, 2006, Cuad. Herpetol., 20: 27, suggested that this species likely occurs in Paraguay. Kwet and Solé, 2008, Zootaxa, 1947: 54, noted that previous records from Paraguay and Argentina probably refer to Trachycephalus dibernardoi. See comment under Trachycephalus dibernardoi which was previously confused with this species. Matavelli, Oliveira, Godoy, Ribeiro, and Bertoluci, 2018, Herpetol. Notes, 11: 353–355, provided records for Minas Gerais, Brazil, and discussed the range.
