Ptychohyla hypomykter McCranie and Wilson, 1993, Southwest. Nat., 38: 101. Holotype: USNM 319918, by original designation. Type locality: "beside the Quebrada Cañon Oscuro (15° 05′ N, 88° 56′ W), 1150-1170 m elevation, a stream on Montaña Cerro Azul below Quebrada Grande, Departamento de Copán, Honduras".

Distribution

Cloud forest at elevations of 340–2070 m on the Atlantic versant from west-central Guatemala to north-central Nicaragua, exclusive of the Cordillera Nombre de Dios of north-central Honduras, possibly into El Salvador.

Until McCranie and Wilson, 1993, Southwest. Nat., 38: 100–104, sorted out the confusion surrounding types, this species was confused with Ptychohyla spinipollex. In the Ptychohyla euthysanota group according to the original publication. See accounts by Duellman, 2001, Hylid Frogs Middle Am., Ed. 2: 1026–1027, and McCranie and Wilson, 2002, Amph. Honduras: 311–316, and noted the possibility of additional species under this name. McCranie, 2007, Herpetol. Rev., 38: 38, summarized the departmental distribution in Honduras.
