Comment

Possibly this nominal species conceals additional unrecognized taxa, according to Duellman and Campbell, 1992, Misc. Publ. Mus. Zool. Univ. Michigan, 181: 8. See comment under Plectrohyla psiloderma. See account (as including Plectrohyla acanthodes, Plectrohyla teuchestes, and Plectrohyla psiloderma) by Duellman, 1970, Monogr. Mus. Nat. Hist. Univ. Kansas: 580-583; see also accounts by Duellman, 2001, Hylid Frogs Middle Am., Ed. 2: 1067-1070, and McCranie and Wilson, 2002, Amph. Honduras: 298–302, who noted previous misidentifications and possibility of not-so-cryptic species. In the Plectrohyla guatemalensis group of Faivovich, Haddad, Garcia, Frost, Campbell, and Wheeler, 2005, Bull. Am. Mus. Nat. Hist., 294: 105. Köhler, Vesely, and Greenbaum, 2005 "2006", Amph. Rept. El Salvador: 41–42, provided an account (for El Salvador) and a color photograph. McCranie, 2007, Herpetol. Rev., 38: 38, summarized the departmental distribution in Honduras. See illustration, map, description of geographic range and habitat, and conservation status in Stuart, Hoffmann, Chanson, Cox, Berridge, Ramani, and Young, 2008, Threatened Amph. World: 270. Köhler, 2011, Amph. Cent. Am.: 246–255, provided a brief summary of natural history for the species of Plectrohyla in Central America and provided a range map and photograph for this species. Morán-Hidalgo and Ruballo-Marroquín, 2012, Rev. Biodivers. Neotrop., 2: 126–130, provided a record for the Departamento de Chalatenango, El Salvador. McCranie, 2017, Mesoam. Herpetol., 4: 399, provided a dot map for the species in Honduras.
