Comment

Similar to Hyla punctata according to the original publication. Silvano and Pimenta, 2002, Herpetol. Rev., 33: 145, provided the records beyond the type locality. In the Hypsiboas punctata group of Faivovich, Haddad, Garcia, Frost, Campbell, and Wheeler, 2005, Bull. Am. Mus. Nat. Hist., 294: 88. Napoli and Cruz, 2005, Arq. Mus. Nac., Rio de Janeiro, 63: 283–288, reported on the advertisement call. Camarugi, Röhr, and Juncá, 2015, Herpetologica, 71: 243–251, reported on microhabitat variation in calls.  Taboada, Brunetti, Alexandre, Lagorio, and Faivovich, 2017, S. Am. J. Herpetol., 12: 1–13, discussed fluorescence of this species under UV-A/blue light. Lima, Dubeux, Nascimento, Bruschi, and Mott, 2019, Amphibia-Reptilia, 40: 511–521, discussed the range and suggested on the basis of mtDNA and karyological analysis that the the nominal species, an unnamed lineage in Alagoas and Pernambuco, Brazil, with the named lineage falling within a tree of Boana punctata, which they suggested was a complex. Dubeux, Silva, Nascimento, Gonçalves, and Mott, 2019, Rev. Nordestina Zool., 12: 18–52, summarized the literature on larval morphology. See Dubeux, Nascimento, Lima, Magalhães, Silva, Gonçalves, Almeida, Correia, Garda, Mesquita, Rossa-Feres, and Mott, 2020, Biota Neotrop., 20 (2: e20180718): 1–24, for characterization and identification of larvae north of the Rio São Francisco in the Atlantic Forest of northeastern Brazil. Reported from the Environmental Protection Area of Catolé and Fernão Velho, Alagoas, Brazil, by Dubeux, Nascimento, Gonçalves, and Mott, 2021, Pap. Avulsos Zool., São Paulo, 61 (e20216176): 1–10, who provided a key to the frogs of that region.
