Similar to Hyla punctata according to the original publication. Silvano and Pimenta, 2002, Herpetol. Rev., 33: 145, provided the records beyond the type locality. In the Hypsiboas punctata group of Faivovich, Haddad, Garcia, Frost, Campbell, and Wheeler, 2005, Bull. Am. Mus. Nat. Hist., 294: 88. Camarugi, Röhr, and Juncá, 2015, Herpetologica, 71: 243–251, reported on microhabitat variation in calls.  Taboada, Brunetti, Alexandre, Lagorio, and Faivovich, 2017, S. Am. J. Herpetol., 12: 1–13, discussed fluorescence of this species under UV-A/blue light.
