See comment under Pseudacris ocularis regarding nomenclature. Dessauer and Nevo, 1969, Biochem. Genet., 3: 171-188, discussed geographical variation in biochemical markers and discussed biogeographic differentiation. In Hylini of Faivovich, Haddad, Garcia, Frost, Campbell, and Wheeler, 2005, Bull. Am. Mus. Nat. Hist., 294: 98. Gamble, Berendzen, Shaffer, Starkey, and Simons, 2008, Mol. Phylogenet. Evol., 48: 112–125, redelimited the species on the basis of molecular evidence. Elliot, Gerhardt, and Davidson, 2009, Frogs and Toads of N. Am.: 114–117, provided an account, photos, and advertisement call. Micancin and Wiley, 2014, Evol.
