Nannophrys ceylonensis Günther, 1869 "1868", Proc. Zool. Soc. London, 1868: 482. Syntypes: BMNH 1868.3.17.36–39 according to Dutta, 1997, Amph. India Sri Lanka: 142. Type locality: "Ceylon [= Sri Lanka], probably from the southern parts".

Trachucephalus ceylanicus Ferguson, 1874, J. Ceylon Branch R. Asiat. Soc., 1874: 1. Holotype: Ferguson collection, presumably given to BMNH. Type locality: "I am not certain as to where it was found, though I believe I caught it on the sides of a stream near Hewisse, in the southern portion of the Western Province", Sri Lanka. Synonymy by Günther, 1876 "1875", Proc. Zool. Soc. London, 1875: 568; Boulenger, 1882, Cat. Batr. Sal. Coll. Brit. Mus., Ed. 2: 115.
