Epipedobates simulans Myers, Rodríguez, and Icochea, 1998, Am. Mus. Novit., 3238: 2. Holotype: MUSM 16996, by original designation. Type locality: "on ridge along Río Távara (trib. Río Tambopata) just below confluence of Río Candamo and Río Huacamayo, about 450 m elev. (13° 31′ S, 69° 41′ W), Depto. Puno, Peru. The type locality is in the Zona Reservada Tambopata-Candamo".

Comment

Confused with Ameerega petersi prior to description. De la Riva, Köhler, Lötters, and Reichle, 2000, Rev. Esp. Herpetol., 14: 57, and Köhler, 2000, Bonn. Zool. Monogr., 48: 69, considered this species possibly to occur in Bolivia. Lötters, Jungfer, Henkel, and Schmidt, 2007, Poison Frogs: 366-367, provided an account and placed this species in their Ameerega picta group.
