In species group III or VI of Rivero and possibly in Mannophryne according to the original publication, although this conjecture was refuted by the results of Grant, Frost, Caldwell, Gagliardo, Haddad, Kok, Means, Noonan, Schargel, and Wheeler, 2006, Bull. Am. Mus. Nat. Hist., 299. See account by La Marca, 1997 "1996", Publ. Asoc. Amigos Doñana, 9: 31. See distributional comments by Gorzula and Señaris, 1999 "1998", Scient. Guaianae, 8: 23-24.
