Izecksohn and Carvalho-e-Silva, 2001, Anf. Municipio Rio de Janeiro: 89, provided a brief account and photo. See photograph, map, description of geographic range and habitat, and conservation status in Stuart, Hoffmann, Chanson, Cox, Berridge, Ramani, and Young, 2008, Threatened Amph. World: 421. Nunes-de-Almeida, Assis, Feio, and Toledo, 2016, PLoS One, 11(9: e0162617): 1–12, reported on vocalization and noted two populations with different advertisement call, one in Minas Gerais and Rio de Janeiro and the other in Espirito Santo (now Thoropa bryomantis). Ferreira, Mônico, Silva, Lirio, Zocca, Mageski, Tonini, Beard, Duca, and Silva-Soares, 2019, ZooKeys, 857: 152, noted an unnamed species, "Thoropa aff. lutzi" (now Thoropa bryomantis) in the region of Santa Teresa, Espírito Santo, Brazil. Assis, Lacerda, Guimarães, Peixoto, Luna, and Feio, 2021, Zootaxa, 4995: 505–522, redelimited the species in both geography and diagnosis to exclude what they named as Thoropa bryomantis, providing advertisement calls and morphometric differences. Larval morphology, anatomy, and phylogenetics reported on by Dias, Vera Candioti, Sabbag, Colaço, Silva, Haddad, Carvalho-e-Silva, and Grant, 2021, J.
