Comment

Literature prior to 2020, for the most part includes references relevant to Hyalinobatrachium fleischmanni, but also to species then-confused with it: Hyalinobatrachium viridissimum and Hyalinobatrachium tatayoi. Therefore, use the following literature with caution (DRF). For discussion see Lynch and Duellman, 1973, Occas. Pap. Mus. Nat. Hist. Univ. Kansas, 16: 1-66; Goin, 1964, Herpetologica, 20: 1-8; Starrett and Savage, 1973, Bull. S. California Acad. Sci., 72: 57-78. In the Hyalinobatrachium fleischmanni group, according to Ruiz-Carranza and Lynch, 1991, Lozania, 57: 1-30. Lips and Savage, 1996, Proc. Biol. Soc. Washington, 109: 17–26, included this species  in a key to the tadpoles found in Costa Rica. See account by Savage, 2002, Amph. Rept. Costa Rica: 371-373. Barrio-Amorós, 2004, Rev. Ecol. Lat. Am., 9: 6, noted that the records of Hyalinobatrachium fleischmanni from Venezuela were attributable to Hyalinobatrachium guairarepanenseKubicki, 2007, Glass Frogs Costa Rica: 200-215, provided an account and detailed range map (as Hyalinobatrachium fleischmanni) for Costa Rica. Castroviejo-Fisher, Vilà, Ayarzagüena, Blanc, and Ernst, 2011, Zootaxa, 3132: 1-55, referred all records of nominal Hyalinobatrachium fleischmanni from the east side of the Andes to other species. Köhler, 2011, Amph. Cent. Am.: 121–125, compared the species of Central America and provided an identification key, maps, and photographs (which would include Hyalinobatrachium viridissimus as well as part of Hyalinobatrachium fleischmanni). Mendoza, Bolívar-García, Vázquez-Domínguez, Ibáñez D., and Parra-Olea, 2019, PeerJ, 7 (e6115): 1–28, reported on mtDNA phylogeography, identifying three populations which, should nuDNA be congruent, likely will be named as species (now Hyalinobatrachium viridissimum, Hyalinobatrachium tatayoi, and  Hyalinobatrachium viridissimus). Mendoza-Henao, Arias, Townsend, and Parra-Olea, 2020, Syst. Biodiversity, 18: 464–484, redelimited the species (on the basis of DNA, calls, and morphology), partitioning Hyalinobatrachium viridissimum out of former Hyalinobatrachium fleischmanni and moving South American records to Hyalinobatrachium tatayoi.
