Comment

La Marca, 1996, Herpetol. Rev., 27: 148-149, provided a number of records in Venezuela (as Centrolene buckleyi) and commented on the range. Myers and Donnelly, 1997, Am. Mus. Novit., 3213: 16, considered it to be a distinct species; without discussion, and this was accepted by Barrio-Amorós, 2004, Rev. Ecol. Latino Am., 9: 5, who reported on distribution and relevant literature. Señaris and Ayarzagüena, 2005, Rev. Taxonom. Fam. Centrolenidae de Venezuela: 85-98, provided a review of the morphology, natural history, and range of this species. Guayasamin, Bustamante, Almeida-Reinoso, and Funk, 2006, Zool. J. Linn. Soc., 147: 500, criticized the separation of Centrolene venezuelense from Centrolene buckleyi without having provided a complete study of the geographic variation in Centrolene buckleyi. Rojas-Runjaic, Infante-Rivero, and Cabello, 2012, Check List, 8: 819-825, reported the species from the Sierra de Perijá, Zulia, Venezula, and commented on the range.
