Nectophryne kempi Boulenger, 1919, Rec. Indian Mus., 16: 207. Syntypes: ZSIC (2 specimens), by original designation, of which ZSIC 18481 was reported by Chanda, Das, and Dubois, 2001 "2000", Hamadryad, 25: 104. Type locality: "Garo Hills, Assam [Meghalaya, India]. . . . above Tura, 2,500 ft.". The location of the second syntype is unknown.

Distribution

Known only from the type locality (Garo Hills, Meghalaya, India) and vicinity of Eman Asakgre, Meghalaya, India.

Dutta, 1997, Amph. India Sri Lanka: 54, and Chanda, 2002, Handb. Indian Amph.: 32, provided brief accounts. Das and Dutta, 2007, Hamadryad, 31: 154–181, noted no larval descriptions in the literature (as Pedostibes kempi). Mathew and Sen, 2010, Pict. Guide Amph. NE India: 25-26, provided a brief characterization and illustration.  Chandramouli and Amarasinghe, 2016, Herpetologica, 7: 137, transferred this species to BufoidesNaveen, Chandramouli, Kadam, Babu, Karunakaran, Kumara, and Parthasarathy, 2022, J. Threatened Taxa, 14: 22277–22292, reported on molecular markers, the rediscovery of the species, its call, life history, osteology, adult and larval morphology.
