Atelopus mucubajiensis Rivero, 1974 "1972", Bol. Soc. Venezol. Cienc. Nat., 29: 606. Holotype: BMNH 1971.763, by original designation. Type locality: "Mucubají Region, Santo Domingo, 3100 m, Estado Mérida, Venezuela".

Region of the type locality (Paramo de Mucubají) in the Cordillera de Mérida, in subparamo and paramo at 2300-3500 m, Venezuela.
