Amazophrynella manaos Rojas-Zamora, Carvalho, Gordo, Ávila, Farias, and Hrbek, 2014, Zootaxa, 3753: 82. Holotype: INPA-H 31866, by original designation. Type locality: "in forest remnants of the campus of the Universidade Federal do Amazonas—UFAM (03° 05′ 56″ S, 59° 58′  09″ W), municipality of Manaus, Amazonas State", Brazil. 


Know from its type locality (Manaus) and from the vicinity of the city of São Gabriel da Cachoeria, approximately 110 km south-east of the type locality, all in Amazonas, Brazil. 


Confused with Amazophrynella minuta prior to its naming according to the original publication. Menin, Pegorini, Carvalho, Rojas-Zamora, and Gordo, 2014, Zootaxa, 3826: 393–396, reported on larval morphology.
