Diasporus ventrimaculatus Chaves, García-Rodríguez, Mora, and Leal, 2009, Zootaxa, 2088: 3. Holotype: UCR 20493, by original designation. Type locality: "Valle del Silencio at the east edge of the Cordillera de Talamanca 20 km west from the Costa Rica-Panama border (9.1116 N, -82.96172 W, 2550 m elevation)".

Known only from the Valle del Silencio on the Caribbean versant of the Cordillera de Talamanca, Limon Province, Costa Rica, ca. 2550 m elevation.

 Jiménez-Rivillas, Vargas, Fang, Di Filippo, and Daza-R., 2013, S. Am. J. Herpetol., 8: 1-4, reported on aspects of the advertisement call. Köhler, 2011, Amph. Cent. Am.: 140–191, provided a key to the genera and species of Brachycephaloidea (= Craugastoridae, Eleutherodactylidae) in Central America and provided maps and photographs of the species, including this one.
