Hylodes gularis Boulenger, 1898, Proc. Zool. Soc. London, 1898: 121. Holotype: BMNH 1947.2.15.82 (formerly 98.4.28.107), according to J.D. Lynch IN Frost, 1985, Amph. Species World: 293. Type locality: "Cachabe [=Cachabí], a small village on the river of that name on the N.W. Coast; in the Prov. Esmeraldas. . . probably about 500 feet above the sea", Ecuador. Lynch and Myers, 1983, Bull. Am. Mus. Nat. Hist., 175: 515, discussed this locality and noted that it is not the same as San Javier de Cachabí.
